DMATS releases draft 2055 Long Range Transportation Plan for public review and comment

The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (DMATS) invites area residents to review and comment on the draft 2055 Long Range Transportation Plan, available at https://eciatrans.org/dmats_lrtp_2055/.

As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the region, DMATS is required by federal law to update its Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) every five years. The new plan looks ahead to the year 2055, mapping out a long-range vision for managing and improving the region’s transportation system. The plan addresses transportation topics such as roads, highways, bridges, public transit, bicycle and pedestrian travel, safety, intercity travel, freight movement, and more.

The full draft plan and appendices are available at the link above. The page also includes a comment form that can be used to submit comments and questions on the plan. Public comments will help DMATS better understand community transportation needs and priorities before the plan is finalized. The deadline to submit comments is September 28, 2026.

The DMATS planning area includes the city of Dubuque and surrounding communities and rural areas. In Iowa, this includes a portion of Dubuque County and the cities of Asbury, Centralia, Durango, Peosta, and Sageville. In Illinois, it includes part of Jo Daviess County and the city of East Dubuque. In Wisconsin, the planning area covers Jamestown Township in Grant County, including the communities of Kieler and Sandy Hook.
